Too made-up?

Image
So why is being a low-maintenance person suddenly so fashionable all-over again? Simplicity is the most ultimate sophistication! Oh yes, it definitely is! But if just-a-little make-up can truly ENHANCE your beauty, that should not be bad too! It's even good at times :) A popular question on Quora goes like - ''How do men feel about women who don't expend much effort on appearances (e.g., clothes, makeup)?'' Have a look at two most up-voted answers by men : The point is, if you look good, you look good.  Guys generally don't know (even if they think they do) or care much about how much effort was expended to achieve the outcome, they just focus on the outcome. .And remember, a guy who says he likes girls who don't put too much effort into their appearance is like a five-year-old kid asking for plain tuna fish.  Nod and smile, but whatever you do in response to this statement, do not stop wearing flattering clothing, using appropriate amounts of ...

He-For-She

"I think women are foolish to pretend they are equal to men, they are far superior and always have been" - William Golding When I first read this quote, I was, to be honest, shocked first of all as to why would ANY man submit this easily in the ever-going battle of sexes! I read more on him. A British novelist, a Nobel Laureate, a teacher and a campaigner of women suffrage. Is it out of plain sympathy? or sensitization to the sufferings women have been subjected to? or admiration for bravery with elegance a woman can portray? Any input/comment would be highly appreciated from the audience (if any ;) to help decipher a clearer meaning. I am NO feminist. I say women are definitely equal to men,if not superior. Though they have been at receiving end for quite long in human history, but in present times when we should talk of gender EQUALITY, can we be justified in speaking of superiority of any gender? ...

Rape of a nation!

Image
Introspecting over the recent events that have galvanized the country, it is nothing less than failure of a nation to protect its people. Ours is a freedom of no real value. The pseudo sense of well-being that we like to keep ourselves in has been shaken! Please realize it was all much more than just 'taking the wrong bus' . Its about a pathetic mindset of the society we live in. It is a society which can at best teach its women not to get raped but not its men to respect girls! I would say, each one of us encourages crime by not speaking against it. This case was in highlights, being a very heinous act, there are several such cases that don't even get reported,  victims do not speak up. All the girls who travel by public transport know what is the magnitude of the harrassment we face, much more than the subtle term 'eve-teasing' could ever convey. Random comments, lewd stares, 'accidental' touching, being stalked; It ends nowhere. Have we got used to ...

Take on Medicon! (Year 2012)

Image
This April when hit the submit button on a webpage with a logo as basic as a yellow doughnut, little did I know what it really leads to, what lies ahead. All I wanted was a platform to put forth my research work that I took up in my medical college. Apprehensions kept creeping into my mind about how would it be to stay in  MGIMS, Wardha  all those five days in Medicon! [For readers (if any :P), Medicon is India's largest medical undergraduate students' research conference - one of its kind.]  A novice- my first Medicon - this long stay - a new place - amongst new faces - This was definitely something out of my comfort zone. Now I can say, what I experienced was greater than of the sorts I had imagined. What initially started as a platform to present my research work, later became an opportunity to hear out to the likes of  Dr. Abhay Bang , something that  stimulated  me the most to go and be on my own.  Partly, the push came from those aro...

The Year That Was...

Talking of the year that is nearing its end, I feel it has been a GREAT one indeed! 2011  was the year that 1. Had the most wonderful beginning - One holiday. Place such as Himachal. Good friends around.  A cold morning. Snow view from our duplex suite. Soft music playing in. Tranquility. You are bound to love life! 2. Gave me things I love the most. I traveled on two more occasions around the second half of the year. Th gave me a Kindle and a Dell XPS. Me, the gadget-lover! 3. Saw me enjoying my subjects a lot more now, than I used to a year ago. Not to think of grades when you study is important. And this year, I can say, I tried that.  I got myself into a research project in Paediatrics, interacted with some 125 parents. And Believe it or not - Doraemon is making kids go crazy! :P (I plan to sit down and watch it sometime because I just realized its all about this lazy boy and a cat  Doraemon which usually saves the day for ...
